ELOPING IN SAN DIEGO: TORREY PINES GOLF COURSE WEDDING PHOTOS
Let’s face it, weddings can be a hassle. Sure, they are fun and exciting and you get to be a princess for the day, but… they can also be expensive and chaotic and more overwhelming than you ever imagined they would be. For some people, it just isn’t worth all the stress. Traditional weddings simply aren’t for every couple.
But that doesn’t mean that your only other option is running off to the courthouse and signing on the dotted line. You can have your private and secluded wedding day nearly anywhere you choose, without the pomp and circumstance of a traditional ceremony that may not apply to you. And eloping in San Diego just so happens to offer some pretty amazing locations to choose from. You can have your toes in the sand, sun on your face, soaking up every ounce of love the day has to offer if you want. And you can do it all your way, without worrying about what anyone else may want from your big day.
That’s because the beauty of eloping is that it truly gets to be just about you as a couple. Sure, you can invite your parents or closest friends if you choose, but you don’t have to worry about them in that planning. There is no need to consider dietary restrictions or seating arrangements. No purpose to making deposits simply to reserve a space big enough for you and all your guests. You don’t have to plan out ornate flower arrangements or worry about how you will get everyone in attendance photographed throughout the course of a single evening.
Keeping it small and simple means that you get far more control than you otherwise would have.
There is also always the option of exchanging your “I Do’s” in the middle of the week if you choose. Unlike big weddings, which have hundreds of other schedules you have to work around, you and your fiancé can essentially do the whole elopement thing whenever you want. Wednesday afternoon at 2:00? Sure, why not? Thursday morning at 10:00? Go for it, sky’s the limit! Not only do you get your own flexibility, but if you are willing to wed during those off-peak days and hours, you may find that you can also get your pick of any wedding professionals you choose to hire – the ones who likely won’t otherwise be booked up during your nuptials. And at the very least, picking a weekday means won’t have competition from bigger weddings when it comes to choosing your location, photographer, or anything else.
Because let’s be clear on one thing: no matter how big or small your wedding may be, you do still absolutely need a photographer. If you invest in nothing else, you should still have that. And I’m not just saying that because I am a photographer. I’m saying it because it’s true. No matter what, those will be photos you will want to look back on in the years to come. So don’t be afraid to make capturing them a priority.
Back to the point at hand though, your wedding day should be about you. Which means that if you have always dreamed of being surrounded by hundreds of friends and family while you walk down the aisle in all white and get to enjoy your day of being a princess, go for it. But if none of that appeals to you, and a small and intimate impromptu ceremony is more your style, there are ways to make that happen as well.
Particularly here in San Diego, where the options are limitless and the beach is just waiting for your happy day!
WEDDING OFFICIANTS
My favorite is when a friend or family member performs the ceremony. All they need is to register as “officiant for the day” with the courthouse. But if you must hire someone, I love the ceremonies performed by Rabbi Ian… even if you aren’t Jewish, I urge you to contact him.
WEDDING FLOWERS
you may decide to forgo flowers all together, but for photography’s sake consider ordering a boutonniere & wedding bouquet from your favorite florist. You will want to ask for “personals” only and be willing to go to them for pick-up. Try Adrianne Smith Floral Design. Shes a busy lady, so call back a 2nd time if need be.
WEDDING DRESS/SUIT
You can get the wedding dress of your dreams or just get married in a sundress. A good compromise is Rent the Runway. Guys, there is no excuse for not having at least one nice suit (that fits) in your closet. Here is your perfect opportunity.
CEREMONY VENUES/LOCATION
Regardless of what parks & beaches say about needing a permit, the fact that you will have nothing to “set up” and just a few guests if any means you do not need a permit. Pick the spot of your dreams in San Diego and go for it. If you need help, feel free to contact me.

RECEPTION LOCATIONS
Since you won’t be having the traditional wedding reception, the sky is the limit here. Pick your favorite restaurant, make your own luxury picnic, bring in a personal chef or schedule your ceremony right before a particularly tasty looking food & wine festival so you can attend after.
TIMELINE
Even though you don’t have guests to manage you will still need a plan for making the day awesome. A timeline if you will. Here is about how long things take on the photography side… add in your own schedule as you wish (actual times are just a suggestion – don’t forget to consider sunset times!):
3:00pm – 4:00pm getting ready
4:00pm – 4:30pm ceremony
4:30pm – 5:30pm photography
5:30pm – 6:00pm reception location photos/toast/cake
