Summer Wedding Precautionary Tips
Summer Wedding Precautionary Tips
Plenty of brides grew up fantasizing about a summer wedding, long before they had that ring on their finger. There’s a reason this is considered wedding season – because visions of toes in the sand and clear blue skies are enticing to a lot of couples to be. So if you’ve been planning your summer nuptials, you likely know by now you aren’t alone in that – but what you may not realize is that there are some extra precautions to take as you prepare for your summer “I Do’s.”
Slather On the Sunscreen
It’s totally normal to want a bit of a glow for your summer wedding, but the problem comes when that glow veers more towards red or hints at awkward tan lines. I’ve talked before about the reasons to be cautious with intentional tanning before your wedding, and why spray tans may not be the best fit either (particularly in a white dress), but you also have to consider taking extra sun precautions when you’re not intentionally outside trying to bolster that glow of yours. Wedding prep for an outdoor event often involves a lot of time spent outside in the days leading up to your wedding. Your rehearsal will probably have you outdoors for a few hours, and you may have some details to attend to outside when it comes to setup as well. In those days leading up to your wedding, it is more important than ever to slather on the sunscreen. Your dress will likely reveal more skin than anything you would be wearing outside for that wedding prep, and if you aren’t careful – you are going to have some unappealing tan lines that completely counteract that natural glow you were going for. Even on your big day, applying an extra layer of sunscreen before hair and makeup is probably a good idea. After all, nursing a sunburn on your wedding night could definitely kill the mood.
Avoid Runny Makeup
It’s summer. The sun is blazing and temperatures are rising. Which means that heavy makeup has a way of running right down a brides face if she isn’t careful. Be sure your makeup artist has the right tools and products to endure throughout even the warmest of days. Sweat proof makeup is a thing, and it should absolutely be opted for on your big day!
You want to know a not-so-secret secret? I am all about a bride and groom having a drink or two on their big day – long before the reception begins. For those who do drink, a cocktail can sometimes loosen nerves and make the entire day more enjoyable and less stressful. But with that comes the reminder that hydration on warm days is also more important than it otherwise might be, and if you are enjoying a few cocktails along the way – matching those cocktails, glass for glass, with water is probably a really good idea. You don’t want to be feeling nauseous and faint as you prepare to walk down the aisle – so keep hydrated and ensure you can enjoy your day to the fullest.
Consider the Bugs
One of the downfalls of summer is that those warmer tempts tend to be awfully tempting to the creepy crawlies of the world. Mosquitos and other pesks are more likely to show up as uninvited guests to your summer wedding, which means it’s a good idea to take some precautions before they try to make an appearance. Talk to your wedding planner or venue about the use of Citronella candles. These can help keep the bugs at bay, while also providing a bit of romantic ambiance by candlelight.
