San Diego’s Best Rehearsal Dinner Locations – Volume 1
Dine and Devote: San Diego’s Best Rehearsal Dinner Locations – Volume 1
Weddings have a way of getting overwhelming really fast. For the bride and groom, everyone they have ever known is vying for their attention. There is so much excitement in the air, and all you want to do is hold on to your newly committed love, yet you find yourself pulled in 1,000 different directions from the moment those “I Do’s” are exchanged until the second you are finally able to sneak away at the end of the night. It will be one of the happiest days of your entire life, but you are fooling yourself if you don’t plan on that chaos.
Thankfully, there is another event leading up to the big day that is slightly more reserved and typically includes only your closest friends and family. The rehearsal dinner is an opportunity for you to acknowledge all the work your nearest and dearest have done in planning for your wedding, and to enjoy an evening of celebration with just your tightest inner circle.
It is also a chance to eat and drink without being interrupted by a new round of “congratulations!” every 30 seconds.
I love rehearsal dinners. They are a more relaxed version of the reception, and there is always so much love packed into a much simpler reception; two families truly becoming one, with a feast before them that is worthy of the celebration. In the interest of self-promotion, I will say that the photos taken at rehearsal dinners are always priceless, and you should definitely consider hiring your favorite wedding photographer to capture the special moments which can be made in this more intimate setting. But that isn’t the only reason I am planning my latest series for you. No, it is so much more than that!
Some of you may recall that in another life, I would have wanted to be a chef. I am a total foodie at heart, and of course – I would never turn down a good glass of wine. So I have decided to compile a list of some of the best rehearsal dinner locations in and around San Diego – based in part on some of the suggestions a few of you have made over on the Facebook Fan Page (not a fan yet? You totally should be!) Over the next few weeks, I will be highlighting all the greatest locations in San Diego, creating a list for you to reference back to and choose from when the time comes to plan your own rehearsal dinner.
To kick off this series, here are the first two hot spots you really should consider when it comes to planning the big night, before your big day!
JRDN: Tower 23 Hotel, Pacific Beach
JRDN restaurant has a lot to offer a rehearsal dinner, including killer views, mouthwatering food, and a private wine room or sunset deck, perfect for holding just such an event. Located on the water in Pacific Beach, planning your event here before dusk will ensure a breathtaking sunset scene, and the upstairs fire pits can be a great place to wander to and hang out at after your meal is done. The menu is steak and seafood, with a sushi bar right on site, and the private dining room includes a glass encased wine wall where your bottles can be hand selected from. The ambiance is modern, but everything about this dining experience is tasteful and classic.
CELLAR DOOR: A private Supper Club
Maybe you are looking for something even more intimate, and a private room in an otherwise busy restaurant just won’t do. If that’s the case, Cellar Door is your answer. Here’s the thing though: Cellar Door may just be one of San Diego’s best kept secrets. They specialize in private dinner parties: pop-up meals they hold for friends only. That means that you need to become friends with them ASAP in order to get in their good graces. Don’t allow the underground experience to dissuade you though. There is a reason Cellar Door has gained quickly in notoriety, despite the down-low dining experiences they provide: their food is amazing, and their cocktails might just be even better. Figure out how to get to know Logan & Gary ASAP… maybe ask them about Donnie Darko.
