New Baby Must Haves
New Baby Must Haves
As most of you know, my husband and I welcomed our first daughter into the world a little over 3 months ago. I am now back to working my regular schedule and still loving motherhood with all my heart, but if there is anything the last few months have taught – it’s that a lot of the “stuff” new mom’s are told they need aren’t exactly necessary. In fact, much of it never ends up getting used at all. Like . At. All.
There really is a lot of baby swag being passed off on parents these days.
But then, there is the stuff we can’t live without. The new baby accessories that have made our lives so much easier. For all you new-mama’s-to-be, these have been our must-haves.
There are a lot of carriers on the market these days. After all, baby wearing has become all the rage – who wouldn’t want to be hands free while still having their little tucked close? But for us, I have found that I really prefer the K’Tan Carrier. As far as comfort is concerned, I love that it goes over my shoulders and can be worn a few different ways. It frees me up to cook, edit and go for walks while still snuggling our little girl close. And she loves being in there as well – which is obviously a bonus.
Have you seen these things? They are adorable! Pacifiers with little stuffed animals attached to them. Our little girl loves hers. I’ve found that with a lot of pacifiers, they fall out of a baby’s mouth and the little ones can’t retrieve them. But that extra stuffed animal attachment helps little hands to maneuver the whole process a lot better. She has more control, and there is something extra to cuddle, as well. Wubbanubs for the win!
This is one of those baby must haves that is on every single registry, and for good reason. A good play mat is like magic! Our little one loves to lay and stare at the toys hanging down above her, and it is also a great place to practice tummy time. I don’t think it even really matters what play mat you get, just so long as it is something that is interactive and bright. There are so many options to choose from – you can certainly find one that fits your nursery décor or tastes. But I personally love that ours has a mirror. Babies really do seem to be big on checking themselves out!
Rock ‘n Play
A good Rock ‘n Play sleeper serves so many purposes. They work miracles on soothing tired or upset babies, can help to avoid the 45 minute wakeups that are sometimes otherwise so common with little ones, and are the perfect place to put baby when you are finishing up dinner or desperately need to jump in the shower – bringing a monitor along, of course. I honestly haven’t ever met a single baby who didn’t love these things, so they are absolutely worth adding to your must-have list. Sure, they may be over (or too big) for it by 6 months, but up to that point – it will be a lifesaver. I promise.
During the first few months of a baby’s life, it is rare for them to sleep in their crib. Most parents find that with every 2-hour feedings, it is simply easier to have them nearby. For some, that means co-sleeping, and for others, it means utilizing actual co-sleepers that attach to the bed but don’t have baby in the bed. Moses Baskets are another variation of that, but when combined with a handy stand, they also allow you to rock a baby who is stirring but not quite awake. Plus, they are mobile and adorable!
Now you know my must haves. What are some of yours?
