Looking Back: Wedding Photography in San Jose del Cabo
One of the best features of my job is travel. Well, to be honest, the travel itself with all the photo gear and leaving my family is really a pain in the butt. BUT the actual locations, friends, family, and ensuing celebrations are definitely worth the hassle. I suppose everything in life is a trade-off right?
I’ve been looking back a bit, as the New Year tends to make me do, and noticing the scope of my past work. It is just so rich with moments. Some, unexpectedly, seem to stick around.
Take San Jose del Cabo for instance.
Once upon a time, I was hired to photograph a destination wedding at a teeny little hotel in San Jose del Cabo. The hotel was Cabo Surf. Who knew the influence this would have over the years. The wedding (you can view it HERE,) covered a few days of events, like an amazing boat ride, and of course the wedding. It was a blast!
Fast forward a few years. My assistant Lauren, who spent a lot of time viewing those Cabo photos and working with that wedding couple, decides to ALSO get married at Cabo Surf. (You can view the wedding HERE.) And of course I get to be the photographer! Uh-mazing! I met some new friends on this trip, made some great photos, and got in some very needed R&R as well.
Non-wedding related, but a fun side-note, I was asked about my mind’s “calm place.” The place I picture in my mind that is my perfect, chill, no-worry place. (A great technique for calming yourself in times of stress I might add!) It turned out, the first thing that came to mind was the view from the hot-tub while sitting at the Cabo Surf hotel. Life is strange. And beautiful.
All of this reminiscing came up from wasting time on Pinterest. I love perusing the infinite scroll of travel, and as the page rolled by, there was one of my photos! I suppose this image became popular on Pinterest because of it’s great inspiration for wedding market-lighting. Or perhaps its the inviting blue sky and twinkle light glow. Who really knows why people connect. Well, I don’t randomly run into my own photos very often so this grabbed my attention. It made me realize, that coming up in the next few years, I’d like to take my husband and daughter to this quirky little surf hotel on the edge of Mexico. To share with them this place I’m so fond of. I wonder what they will find to love about it, if they will even like it. But to get to sit in my happy place again will be magical.
