Finding The Perfect Wedding Dress
Finding The Perfect Wedding Dress
The ultimate wedding dress; it is a prize so valued that reality television shows and classic movie montages have been dedicated to its pursuit. For some, it would seem the quest for the perfect dress is nearly as important as being engaged to the perfect man. Little girls dream of how they will look on their wedding day, and grown women fantasize about the details of that one all-important frock.
This makes finding it one of the key aspects of wedding planning.
Just because there is so much pressure to find that perfect dress, however, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have fun in its pursuit. Shopping for wedding dresses is a timeless tradition, marking just one of the many fun and exciting events leading up to the big day. And brides really should be ready and willing to make it just that – an event – because surrounded by friends and family, finding that perfect dress becomes all the more special and memorable.
Before you head out on the town in search of the garment you will wear the day you say “I Do”, take the time to do a bit of research into the local dress shops you have at your disposal. Try to narrow down at least three you may want to stop in at for your dress shopping needs. If there aren’t many options nearby, consider targeting the nearest big city for your upcoming shopping spree. Spring for a hotel if possible and make a weekend of it, checking out favorite hot spots and restaurants while you’re at it.
Extend invitations to everyone in your bridal party, as well as your mother and future mother-in-law if you think having them along could add to the fun and bonding. Make sure everyone knows this isn’t an obligatory event and is rather an opportunity for some of your favorite girls to join you to whatever extent they can for this momentous shopping occasion. Tell your bridesmaids you are also hoping to test out a few dresses for them as well, getting them in on the fun of shopping while seeking styles which will complement each of them equally.
Call dress shops ahead of time and arrange appointments for your shopping extravaganza. This will ensure you have a dress consultant at your disposal who can pull various options in your size ahead of time. Many shops will also reserve private areas of the store for you and your party to enjoy the day without worrying about the prying eyes of other customers. If you’re lucky, they may even provide champagne for your celebration – but if you are afraid that won’t be something they have at their disposal, you can always ask if you can bring your own.
This is one of those events I also happen to think you should have a photographer for. Forget those classic movie montages of the past; this is your opportunity to strut your stuff and have someone snapping shots of you and the women closest to you having all kinds of fun. Those pictures can be priceless to look back on; both the photos capturing the first glimpse of the dress which will eventually become “the one”, and those pictures memorializing the dresses that never should have been.
The one thing to remember is to have fun with your shopping. Even if the perfect wedding dress doesn’t materialize during those initial trips, you are learning something each time you try a different option on. You are getting a sense of what you do and do not like, narrowing down your choices until the day you find the one you know you cannot say “no” to.
