Countdown to “I Do”: Part One
Countdown to “I Do”: Part One
Hey! Hey, you! Want to know a secret?
That’s right. I’ve got a secret, and it’s a good one.
So… are you ready?
Here it is:
Your favorite wedding photographer (yep, that would be me – just in case you were confused) went and got herself engaged!
<cue dramatic squealing>
I am beyond thrilled to announce my engagement to this man I have been so blessed to spend the last few years of my life with. And because I am so blissed out to be where I am right now, I was thinking it might be fun to start a series of posts counting down to the big day.
Which, by the way, is July 24th!
<feel free to drop a few more squeals – they are all appreciated>
Because, here’s the thing: being a wedding photographer, in the midst of planning a wedding, is kind of a cool thing. Not only do I have all this experience and insight into just what it takes to plan the perfect nuptials, but I have also been involved in literally hundreds of weddings over the years. And because of that fact, I think I am pretty uniquely set to know exactly what I do and do not want out of that perfect wedding day.
So I want to invite you on that journey with me, from engagement to “I Do” as someone who has a whole lot of experience with weddings. Partially because I am just so excited to share, but also because I know so many of your stories already – it’s time you get to know mine!
But first, I want to remind you all about this amazing man I am about to be able to call my husband.
Some of you may remember that I have gushed about Ryan in the past. He is my favorite travel companion, my best friend, and my true partner in crime. We met several years ago at a craft beer festival, introduced by our mutual friend (thanks gain Jess!). We actually already had a few mutual friends and more than plenty in common prior to ever meeting, but we had somehow never crossed paths before. He had even been at my studio with Jess when I wasn’t around.
If you ask me, that was fate giving us time to be right for each other. We had both come out of long-term relationships just a year before we met, and I don’t know if either of us would have been ready if we had met much sooner than we actually did. Even as things were, we took the start of our relationship pretty gradually (as in snails-pace). Our love happened over time, as we built a solid foundation of friendship and respect for each other first.
Which is kind of perfect, when you think about it.
This man is always making me laugh. He is funny in that dry-humor, lightly sarcastic sort of way, and I am forever rolling my eyes and cracking up at the things he says. We are a pretty perfect fit in most ways. We have the same kind of logic, which makes even those big, difficult discussions manageable. Every time we come to a point in our relationship where there is that, “OK, we’ve got to talk” moment – one of us pretty much blurts out exactly what the other is thinking and then we are able to move on and enjoy our day. What talk?
It makes the whole communication thing so smooth for the most part. Though we aren’t perfect!
I love that he is passionate about fitness and enjoys healthy food, but also that he can cut loose and splurge with me every once in a while. Most of all, I love that he is very giving, thoughtful and helpful and just an all around great man.
I am so excited to spend the rest of my life with him.
I’ll tell you all about the fun engagement details… next week!
