Animals in the Wedding Party
Animals in the Wedding Party
Have I told you all the story of the time I photographed a wedding that had a falcon as a ring bearer? Oh, you’ve heard that one already? Well… it was pretty cool. And like nothing I’ve ever seen before!
But just because you don’t have a falcon on hand to drop off the rings, doesn’t mean your wedding still couldn’t benefit from some members of the animal kingdom to liven things up. For a lot of people, their pets are just as much their family as anyone else who might be walking down the aisle with them, and showcasing those relationships can feel just as important.
For others, it may just be about having a unique vibe for the ceremony itself. Which is also a totally cool way to go.
So whether you want your beloved cat standing beside you as you say your “I Do’s,” or you’re aiming for some white doves to be released after the minister states, “And now, you can kiss your bride,” there are a lot of options for incorporating pets into your wedding – you just have to know what you want!
If you’re planning on getting pedicures with your bridesmaids before the ceremony, why not invite your dog along for a little primping an preening as well? Obviously, check with any salon you may be going to for rules on animals up front, but as long as they’re cool with it – there’s no reason why your pet can’t be there sitting in your lap as you’re getting pampered. You may even be able to get a groomer on hand to clean your pup up as well. And they say that pets have a knack for helping to ease nerves – which could mean there is no better companion for you to have by your side as you gear up for the big day!
Putting the Best Paw Forward
The big question is whether or not you should dress your animal friend up for the big event. This is all completely personal. Some people turn to mush at the thought of their 4-legged buddy in a little tux, while others find it all a little silly. Don’t worry about what anyone else might think – but if you are going to go with a little tux or dress, make sure you try it out ahead of time and give your animal friend a chance to get used to it.
Have a Designated Pet Sitter on Hand
Your pet may be the life of the party for the first hour or two, but the combination of lots or people, loud noises and a whole lot of chaos can get overwhelming for even the most even keeled animal attendee. So before your bring them along for the fun, be sure you have someone you trust at the party as well who can bring your animal home (or to somewhere quite) if it all gets to be a bit too much. Having an overnight sitter may be even better! Because as much as you love your four-legged friend – freeing your wedding night up for just you and your new spouse is probably worth it.
Remember, Animals are Unpredictable
But so are children – and that doesn’t stop you from incorporating them! Sure, riding down the aisle on horseback could result in an ill-timed pile of manure, but those are the stories worth telling and laughing about later. And if you really love horses, it might be worth it. The point is, if you’re going to have animals – or children – as a part of your wedding, you have to be prepared for the unexpected. That’s all part of the fun!
